According to the Oxford Dictionary, a duvet is a soft quilt that is filled with feathers, down or synthetic fiber, that is used instead of a blanket or upper sheet. In essence, therefore, a duvet would replace your blanket and upper sheet. Why should you get a duvet over your regular blanket? Here are some reason why.
1. A Duvet is Lighter than a Blanket
This may not seem like a big deal to you until you have experienced it. By being lighter, they are more comfortable and easier to sleep in. If you are the type of person that likes to cover your head when you sleep, then you will love duvets. Due to their lightness, they do not give that overwhelming feeling of suffocation that blankets give if you were to cover your head.
2. A Duvet is Warmer than a Blanket
Here is a small experiment that you can try at home. Take a blanket, a blanket and a bed sheet and a duvet. For a few nights, rotate their use when you sleep and then determine which one was the warmest. You will find that the lone blanket is the least warm. This will be followed by the blanket and the bedsheet combined. Why is that? Well, the blanket and the bedsheet provide a space between each other that traps air. This air is warmed up because of the insulation provided by the blanket and bedsheet.
What about the duvet? The duvet has got a bottom and top fabric that has been sewn together. Inside these two fabrics is stuffing made up of feathers or synthetic fiber and air pockets. The stuffing and the layers of fabric provide better insulation of the air. Duvets hold more warmed air than your conventional blanket and bedsheet. This is what makes duvets warmer.
3. A Duvet Offers You Choice of Fabric
When making a duvet, the most important element is not the choice of fabric to use on the outside, but it is the filling that counts. Therefore, this has allowed manufacturers the liberty to use different fabrics for the outside.
This leaves you, the consumer, with a wide selection to choose from. Some people have sensitive skin which reacts to certain fabrics. Others simply want an assortment of fabrics because they like the variety. Either way, the wide fabric assortments of duvets helps them get what they need.
4. Aesthetic Appeal
Not only do duvets come in a variety of fabrics, they also come in a wide variety of colors and patterns to choose from. This makes it easy to blend in your color choice with the environment. You can get a duvet that matches the wall paint quite easily. The easiest way to achieve this with a blanket is to use an upper bed sheet. The duvet makes it easier by providing one item instead of two. Duvets also make a bed look appealing by making it appear more fluffy and full.
